Open an E-Commerce Company in Thailand

Open an E-Commerce Company in Thailand

The company registration process in Thailand is regulated by the Civil and Commercial Law. Foreign investors must also comply with the requirements of the Foreign Business Act in order to be allowed to open a company in Thailand.
During the last few years, Thai business owners have started following international trends and have begun to promote their companies online or even started to sell their products on the Internet. On the other hand, foreign entrepreneurs have chosen to operate directly through e-commerce companies in Thailand.

Our company formation experts in Thailand can offer information on how to register a domain name in order to start an e-commerce business in this country.

Registering a Thai e-commerce company

Both natural persons and legal entities are allowed to open online companies in Thailand. The first company registration step of an e-commerce business in Thailand begins with the Companies Register. In order to open a company in Thailand, one must file the following documents:
–          a business registration form which is provided by the Trade Register;
–          the identification papers of the manager(s);
–          the registration certificate, in case of companies.

Considering the company will carry out its activities online, the entrepreneur must also register a domain name and have an active website. The details of the website must also be submitted with the Companies Register in Thailand.

Registering a domain name for a Thai e-commerce company

The opening of an e-commerce business in Thailand is completed after the domain name is registered with the Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNIC). Optionally, the owner can also register the name as trademark.

 In order to register a domain name for an e-commerce company with the .co.th extension, the owner must file the documents with THNIC:
–          certificate of registration;
–          the VAT registration document;
–          the VAT modification request document.

These requirements do not apply to those applying for a .com domain name. Also, the e-commerce company can use its name or an abbreviation of the name when registering the website.
